Leaving for France in three days (yikes 3 days!). We have been “training” for a few months, but not with the pack that was packed the way I packed it yesterday. It weighs 20 pounds. Included in the 20 pounds are two dresses for Kip and Josephine’s wedding. Kip is getting married to the young woman he asked me not to embarrass him in front of on October 13, 2011 (see Please Don’t Embarrass Me ). Coincidentally, they are getting married on October 13, 2018. Kip and Josie are getting married in Tuscany and Tony and I are spending the next two months walking across France before the wedding.
In my wildest dreams as a young girl who collected Greyhound brochures while waiting for the bus that would transport my two younger brothers and I 800 miles from my mother’s two bedroom apartment in Arizona to my dad’s one bedroom apartment in California, did I ever think I would write the words “we are walking across France to go to our son’s wedding in Tuscany” . . . my brothers will be there, too (and we will all have our own rooms).
So my pack is heavy and the longest we’ve walked during the past few months is 11 miles sans packs (practicing French hasn’t gone as planned either). This is our packing list that we have used for all of our hikes for those of you who ended up at this site looking for tips on the Via Podiensis.
Plus two dresses for the wedding (one that fits now and one that might fit after walking 500 miles).
